In the 1950s, Harold James started doing custom bulldozing for farmers, businesses, and municipalities. His oldest son Richard “Dick” James graduated from the Wisconsin Institute of Technology (now UW Platteville) with a degree in Mining Engineering. Dick worked for a large company in Illinois until he saved enough money to buy some heavy equipment and returned home to join his father in business. Harlow James, Harold’s second son also graduated with a degree in Mining Engineering from UW Platteville and returned to join Harold and Dick.
